Group show - trash talk

friendly city - hudson, ny

midden, 2023

This piece echoes a coastal mollusk midden pile; a microcosm of the Anthropocene era. Middens are ancient trash piles that contain a range of materials including and not limited to, food scraps, ecofacts, human waste, pottery and organic matter. An environmental artifact, shell middens exemplify soil dynamics and are a formidable component to plant life. This contemporary midden incorporates the ubiquity of plastic. It’s in our blood, our lungs and our oceans. The plastic nurdles congeal to this midden like an artificial pearl, an indisputable mark of our times.
